Tiffany Talavera-Romero, a 17-year-old Latina from Chicago, Illinois, currently attends Proviso Mathematics and Science Academy, a STEM high school in Forest Park, in hopes to pursue a career in Mechanical Engineering in the future. Tiffany attended a Mechanical Engineering Summer Program at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (UIUC) that inspired her to go further with the profession than she already has, and she is currently working on applying for an Engineering Program at MIT. When Tiffany isn’t wearing her sash and crown, she works extremely hard inside and outside of school to maintain high A’s in all her classes. For her great academic achievements, she has received multiple awards recognizing her for her performance in school and has been accepted into multiple National Honor clubs that base themselves on community service in different areas. Given the amount of time Tiffany spends around her school and its environment, she decided to develop her social platform, Get Up and Grind, based on her experiences within the school.

Get Up and Grind is a social platform Tiffany developed to motivate students in her school and in other schools to involve themselves in extracurricular activities to help improve their school’s environment. Tiffany was inspired to create this social platform because although she takes pride in the school she attends, she does admit that there is room for improvement to make the school an engaging and exciting place for the students and staff in the school. A great portion of schools are academics, but it is important to not ignore the social aspect of the school because it is what makes schools exciting. This is where Get Up and Grind makes its mark by inspiring students to involve themselves in extracurricular activities and clubs that will benefit the school’s environment, and overall, benefit their school experience in the long run by making it fun for themselves and others. Tiffany follows the Get Up and Grind model regularly by offering her spare time to stay after school and make improvements within the school through different clubs like NHS, WLNHS, Student Council, Class of ‘27, and more.

Outside of her achievements and community service, Tiffany centers her life around having fun. Tiffany loves performing arts. She grew up dancing ballet, tap, and jazz, and she did other activities like tumbling, choir, and she took art classes at the same local company—Maywood Fine Arts. Besides professional dancing, Tiffany loves Latin cultural dances like traditional folkloric dancing which she also did at a young age, and many different types of dances in Hispanic culture like Cumbias that are typically party-style dances. Tiffany loves going to concerts, and she has an extremely diverse music taste. Music is key for dancing, and they both go hand and hand. She believes that music and dance are key to forming connections and having a fun time with strangers, friends, and most importantly, family.

With this, Tiffany Talavera-Romero is very excited to be the new USOA Teen Illinois, and she is prepared to Inspire, Uplift, and Empower everyone around her.

Lillian is no stranger to the USOA stage! After 5 USOA Illinois local titles and one at large title, she finally won her dream title of USOA Miss Illinois. She wants her legacy within the USOA organization to be her determination and resilience and to be a role model for young girls to never give up on their dreams.

Outside of USOA, Lillian works full time as a Curly Hair Specialist and part time as a Clean Beauty Artist for Jane Iredale. She also recently became an entrepreneur by opening her own business, Curls Done Wright, her own salon suite that specializes in cutting and coloring curly hair.

Lillian’s platform, Be Blue, Be YOU aims to help women embrace their insecurities and turn them into their super power. For her, that was learning to embrace her curly hair. Through her advocacy, she has donated almost $2,900 worth of beauty products to the Community Women Against Hardship Charity. Lillian’s other passion is for animal welfare and bully breed awareness. Through this she has raised almost $2,300 for humane societies in both Illinois and Missouri.

In Lillian’s free time, you can find her listening to true crime podcasts, painting, lounging on the couch with her 2 “creatures” (rescue Pitbull and tabby cat), and cheering on the St. Louis Blues! She is so excited to represent USOA in her home of Southern Illinois and to wear the Illinois title with pride at nationals.

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA'S MRS. ILLINOIS

Photo Dec 01 2025, 2 06 29 PM (20).jpg

I am a devoted mother of three beautiful children and a proud wife to my husband for 36 years. My family is the foundation of my strength and the driving force behind my unwavering commitment to service.

After the devastating loss of my oldest son to gun violence, I transformed my unimaginable pain into purpose. Determined to stand beside other families walking the same painful path, I pursued a career with the Chicago Police Department with the goal of becoming a homicide detective. Today, I serve as a Family Liaison Officer, providing critical resources, advocacy, and compassionate support to families of homicide victims. Through my work, I also hosts meaningful events to honor the lives lost while creating safe spaces for families to connect, heal, and remember. I believe it is not only okay—but necessary—for grieving families to smile, laugh, and experience joy while keeping their loved ones’ memories alive.

In addition to my professional and advocacy work, I am a devoted caregiver to my husband, who is courageously battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer. This deeply personal journey has fueled my passion for advocating for early cancer detection and awareness, emphasizing the importance of listening to our bodies and seeking timely medical care.

When I find moments of quiet, I channel my creativity through crafting. I specialize in sublimation—transferring images onto specially coated items using heat—as well as laser engraving wood, acrylic, and stainless steel tumblers. For me, creativity is both a form of self-care and another way to bring light, beauty, and meaning into the lives of others.
